Similar to other sites, mentioning users is a thing on MxM. When you do it, the member mentioned gets a notification. Simply type @ in a post or comment, and a dropdown automatically appears! 

Mentioning works with their name -or- username.

After typing "@", type out their name or their site username. It will autocomplete regardless. Simple as that!
